Ryan Anderson has a talent for spinning epic yarns into powerful folk pop. His songs tell fantasical stories of family and friends that can be traced back to his south-eastern coastal roots. After studying film and music he has settled in Austin, Texas where he enjoys being a small cog in the gears of such an important musical movement.
Trains Take Away Old Friends is Ryan's first full length that he recorded in 2002 just outside of Savannah, GA on an island called, Wilmington. Inspired by early recordings of Daniiel Johnston,Mountain Goats, Vic Chesnutt and the song "On Top of Old Smokey," he began singing into his SM57 songs about lost love, dead relatives and trains; he didn't stop until it was complete - 5 months later.
Mike Turner from the Bee's Knees zine writes, "this 12 track record brings to mind the old days when elephant 6 singles were all really lo-fi, but crisp, when Shrimper still released tapes, and when you go out [and] discover a new band without any hype. Ryan's music is just that pure and honest."
In spring of 2003, the compilation, Paisley and Twee, was released by Bi-Fi Records (Ames, Iowa) and Happy Happy Birthday to Me Records (Athens, Georgia). It featured four bands, each with an EP's length worth of material and also had cover art by David Barnes (Of Montreal). Alongside Ryan Anderson there was: Poison Control Center, Elekibass, and Red PonyClock.
Also, a 5 song EP entitled, For the Ones Who've Left Us, is schedulled to be released in 2006 by Happy Happy Birthday to Me. It was recorded and engineered by Ben Cooper (Electric President) in the summer of 2004 on Big Talbot Island, located on the Northeast Coast of Florida, about 20 miles from the Georgia border.
Lately Ryan has been working on two albums that should be complete by Dec. 2006.
